Clinton plans to stop "price gouging" by pharmaceutical companies

The candidate is encouraging more development, and use of, generic drugs, in part by calling for a price cap.

U.S. Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton wants a $250 monthly cap to be placed on out-of-pocket prescription drug costs, Reuters reported.

The candidate is encouraging more development, and use, of generic drugs, as a way to stop "price gouging" by pharmaceutical companies.

Under her plan, "the monthly cap would limit what insurance companies could ask patients to pay for drugs that treat chronic or serious medical conditions," Reuters wrote.

The move would also impact a company's ability to write off advertising directed toward consumers as a business expense.
