Alzheimer's, memory supplements under fire by Congress

Congressional leader says there is a "special place in hell" for dementia scammers.

A Senate Democrate from Missouri is questioning the legitimacy of dietary supplements that claim to prevent dementia, help prevent memory loss and other brain related aging problems.

According to The Associated Press, Senator Claire McCaskill, the ranking member on the Senate Aging Committee, recently sent a letter to 15 companies, including Target and Walgreens, asking them to explain how they vet dietary supplements.

"Frankly, I think there's a special place in hell for someone who markets a product and says it will cure Alzheimer's," McCaskill told The Associated Press. "And that's essentially what these scammers are doing and they've had assistance in that."
