“Trucks account for 68.8% of all tonnage moved in the U.S., and 26% of the industry workforce is 55 or older.” according Barry Conlon, CEO of Overhaul, a technology company providing real-time visibility into the global supply chain. Conlon shared his insights with HDA (Healthcare Distribution Alliance) members at the 2018 Distribution Management Conference and Expo in Austin, TX, March 4-7, 2018.

Millennials are the prime target to take these freight transportation jobs, according to Conlon. There are approximately 77 million millennials in the U.S. and 85% own smartphones. This tech-savvy population will be poised to take advantage of the disruptive technologies coming to trucking. Another bonus: 50% to 75% of all millennials are interested in entrepreneurship.
