The Keystone Folding Box Company, a New Jersey-based provider of paperboard packaging solutions, announced today that the company recently joined the Healthcare Compliance Packaging Council (HCPC), a not-for-profit trade association that was established to promote the many benefits of unit dose packaging.

The goal of the HCPC is to reduce the high rate of poor medical adherence in the United States by informing and educating consumers, health professionals and policy makers about the role that unit dose packaging can play in improving pharmaceutical compliance. As the HCPC website indicates: Unit dose packaging can be designed in compliance-enhancing formats that remind people whether they have taken their medications. Birth control pills, certain antibiotics, hormone replacement therapies, and steroids are already being dispensed in unit dose packaging that has proven highly effective in helping people manage their pharmaceutical regimens.

Pharmaceutical noncompliance is a very big problem in this country, said Wade Hartman, President of Keystone Folding Box Co. “According to the HCPC, hundreds of thousands of people die each year because they do not correctly take their medication. Keystone, along with our partners in the HCPC, believes that if more products were packaged in a unit dose form, consumers would be better protected from such issues.”

Keystone contributes to the promotion of unit dose packaging by offering the Key-Pak® and Key-Pak Plus® Blister Cards, patented blister card solutions that are both child resistant and senior-friendly. The line features special, push through pull-tab indicators which help to reduce dosing errors while making it easier for older consumers to comply with dosing requirements www.keypakcard.com.
