Stericycle launches online Carbon Footprint Estimator*

Stericycle, Inc. has launched an online tool to help hospitals determine how much their carbon footprint could be reduced if they switch to the company's reusable sharps disposal container from disposable products.

Stericycle's Carbon Footprint Estimator estimates the amount of plastic and cardboard containers that is diverted from landfills by switching to a recyclable product. The tool also provides ways to lessen the hospital's CO2 footprint.

The company estimates that by making the switch, an average 200-bed acute care hospital will divert more than 13,000 pounds of CO2 or the equivalent to the emission from 679 gallons of gasoline.

The online tool is available at http://www.stericycle.com/carbon-footprint-estimator.html.

To date, Stericycle´s reusable sharps program has kept more than 72 million disposable containers out of landfills.
