FDA Gets Patent for Counterfeit Drug Detector

The US Food and Drug Administration’s CD-3, a handheld fake drug detection device, has been awarded a US patent.

A January 17th Securing Industry article noted that the FDA has been awarded a patent on the fake drug detector they developed with Corning Inc. in 2013. The battery-powered handheld device, dubbed CD-3, employs optical wavelength testing to identify counterfeit drugs and packaging. Customs officers use it as an initial screening device at various entry ports in the United States.
