A recent Yahoo! News article discussed a new device that transforms seawater into drinking water. Developed by a team of researchers at MIT, the portable desalination device is about the size of a suitcase and uses less energy than a cell phone charger. Rather than using filters, the device zaps the water with electric currents that eliminate minerals like salt particles, yielding drinkable water that exceeds the quality standards defined by the World Health Organization.
