According to a recent SciTechDaily article, researchers at CU Boulder have developed a wearable that turns your body into a biological battery. The low-cost device is stretchy enough to be worn as a ring or bracelet and it converts the body’s internal temperature into electricity via the wearer’s natural heat-employing thermoelectric generators. The device can generate roughly 1 volt of energy per square centimeter of skin. That may not seem like much, but it’s enough to power devices like watches and fitness trackers. A video with more information can be seen here.
New Wearable Converts Body Temp to Electricity
The end goal is to create wearables that are powered by the body and don’t require integrated batteries.
