A recent article from NoCamels discussed a surgical procedure that restored a blind man’s eyesight. The operation was the first artificial cornea implantation performed by CorNeat Vision, an Israeli medtech company. The patient became bilaterally blind 10 years ago due to damage caused by edema, and is now the world’s first successful recipient of CorNeat’s synthetic cornea. The director of the Ophthalmology Department at Rabin Medical Center performed the procedure, which allowed the patient to see family and read text immediately after the bandages were removed.
“The surgical procedure was straightforward and the result exceeded all of our expectations,” Professor Bahar said in a statement. “The moment we took off the bandages was an emotional and significant moment. Moments like these are the fulfillment of our calling as doctors. We are proud of being at the forefront of this exciting and meaningful project which will undoubtedly impact the lives of millions.”
