When it comes to face masks, there’s certainly no shortage of interesting styles these days. A recent Medgadget article discussed the latest material to make its way to the mask market, and it’s graphene. A team of scientists at the City University of Hong Kong developed the mask, which contains laser-induced graphene that can kill bacteria. The graphene layer showed potential in deactivating coronaviruses as it can generate heat when exposed to sunlight.
The graphene masks are also environmentally friendly since graphene is made from biomaterials. This resolves the issue of sourcing raw materials for masks, and lessens the environmental impact caused by non-biodegradable disposable masks.
