After a difficult couple of years for the health care sector, CleanMed—the premier U.S. conference for leaders in health care sustainability—returns in person in Kansas City, Mo., May 10-12. The conference draws leading national and international experts as speakers.

“There is unprecedented momentum for the health sector to reduce emissions, increase resilience, and address systemic inequities,” says Health Care Without Harm Founder Gary Cohen, who will moderate a discussion with Dr. John Balbus, interim director of the federal Office of Climate Change and Health Equity, and Ali Santore, executive vice president and chief advocacy and social responsibility officer of Providence Health & Services.

“Health care is recognizing and addressing the political, social, and economic factors that govern how health and illness move through our communities. Throughout the country, hospitals, and health care systems are rising to the challenge by taking their bold climate commitments to the next level, turning their aspirations into concrete strategic plans and meaningful action,” adds Cohen.

The conference is presented each year by Practice Greenhealth, the leading membership and networking organization for sustainable health care, and Health Care Without Harm, an international coalition promoting environmentally responsible health care and advocating for environmental health and justice across the globe.

Educational offerings at the conference will include sessions specifically for clinicians, along with presentations on climate-smart health care innovations, sustainable procurement, greening the operating room, and green building—cost-effective solutions tailored to health care’s needs, goals, and mission.

For those that cannot attend in person, virtual registration will provide access to all plenary sessions, breakout sessions, and pre-recorded informational flash talks through the CleanMed attendee hub.
