In India, the National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA), an independent body of experts, controls drug prices and ensures patients have access to reasonably affordable treatments. A recent article from The Times of India reported that after reviewing data from drug manufacturers, the NPPA has brought nine anti-cancer drugs into its price control framework, resulting in retail price decreases up to 87%. This is the second time the NPPA has announced price cuts on anti-cancer drugs in two months. The drug manufacturers didn’t comment on how the move will affect business, but a spokesperson from the health industry noted that the companies involved have been asked not to reduce production volume.
