A recent article from The First News reported on a new award-winning invention that’s turning pharmaceutical packaging into reusable materials. A team of researchers at the University of Łódź in Poland has devised a way to recover aluminum and polyvinyl chloride (PVC) from discarded blister packs, both used and unused.

The process works by dividing the waste according PVC color. The material is then ground to a fine granulation and placed into a hermetically sealed prototype container where a liquid separates the blister components. The team flied for a patent on the process, which won the gold metal at the International Invention and Design EXPO in Taiwan and an award from the Toronto International Society of Innovation & Advanced Skills.
