“Profits out of the hands of criminals. Protection for our kids. Today cannabis is legalized and regulated across Canada,” tweets Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

Today, Canada became the second country in the world to make cannabis recreational.

While still illegal federally in the U.S., nine states have legalized recreational programs and 31 states have some form of medical marijuana program.

Here at PACK EXPO, many cannabis cultivators, processors and distributors have been shopping the show floor, with most OEMs and packaging suppliers noting that attendees are seeking child-resistant primary packaging and automation for increasing products volumes.

Several packaging suppliers said they’ve been seeing packaging at other shows labeled as child-resistant without mentioning the testing passed or having data to prove that the package is, in fact, child-resistant. Those looking for child-resistant packaging should always ask for the data.
