Pelican BioThermal, the global name in temperature-controlled packaging, was honored September 26, 2019 byTwin Cities Businessas one of five winners at the magazine’s first-ever Manufacturing Excellence Awards program. The publication noted the winners “demonstrate that creative thinking is just as fundamental to Minnesota’s manufacturers as it is to the state’s tech sector.”

To select the winners,Twin Cities Businessdrew from a variety of criteria including each company’s competitive advantages, growth and profitability, new initiatives, operational excellence, workforce development and sustainability efforts. Especially noteworthy was Pelican BioThermal’s 90% increase in its temperature-controlled container fleet — and accompanying 90% increase in revenue — over the last year.

In recent years,Pelican BioThermal has also embarked on a radical expansion ofitsCrēdo™ on Demand shipper rental program used by the life sciences industry to safely transport life-saving pharmaceuticals, tissue, vaccines and blood supplies. The company has added new service centers and network stations around the globe to return, refurbish and condition its temperature-controlled packaging for reuse. Reusable containers now make up 60% of Pelican BioThermal’s revenue and the company continues to focus on sustainability to reduce packaging waste and carbon emissions.

“We’re very proud to be among the inaugural class of Manufacturing Excellence Award recipients fromTwin Cities Business,” said Sean Dveris, director of operations at Pelican BioThermal. “Minnesota has an impressive and innovative manufacturing community and we’re honored to be considered among the best of the best.”
