Visitors of Sun Chemical's booth #N-4876 will learn how inks and specialty coatings can help packaging pop on the shelf, barrier coatings can both lightweight and enhance the shelf life of a package, a laser marking solution can improve productivity, and brand protection offerings will increase package security.
"Brand owners want innovative packaging that accomplish a variety of goals, from shelf standout and lightweighting to extended shelf life, color consistency and anti-counterfeiting," said Charles Murray, President, North American Inks, Sun Chemical. "At Sun Chemical, our R&D focus concentrates on products and services designed to achieve these goals and more. During PACK EXPO, Sun Chemical will show how we can be a partner that can ensure brand owners and their converting partners meet a broad range of packaging needs that provide real value, from inks, coatings, brand protection and HD plates to glass decorating and color management."
Sun Chemical to Highlight Ink Capabilities for Extended Color Gamut Printing
For brand owners and converters that prefer to print using the extended gamut process, Sun Chemical offers a full line of extended color gamut inks for a wide range of printing applications. Jim Felsberg, a field marketing manager at Sun Chemical, will talk about how brand owners and printers can lock in on their brand color equity by using this printing process. The presentation - "Locking in on Color Targets" - will be held on at 1 p.m. on Monday, November 7th at the show's Innovation Stage located at booth #N-4580. The presentation will explore the benefits of using color gamut and how printers can have quicker changeover times and streamline their pressroom.
Coatings Offer Benefits Ranging from Special Effects to Barrier Protection
Visitors of Sun Chemical's booth will be introduced to Sun Chemical's catalog of creative solutions aimed at helping brand owners give their packaging the wow factor. SunInspireT specialty inks and coatings can add visual magic, from metallic inks to fluorescents and phosphorescents, glitter effects, pearlescents, and frosted effects.
SunInspire tactile coatings, ranging from coarse and gritty to soft and smooth, appeal to the sense of touch. Other coatings in the line can create an interactive experience with color shifting, reticulating, and other aromatic coatings. Coatings can give packaging a matte or gloss appearance, while special varnishes can be used to create a relief effect to produce a snakeskin feel, for example. Iridescent coatings can produce the effect of the pack color changing depending on the viewing angle.
Sun Chemical will also highlight its SunBar® oxygen barrier coatings at the booth. Designed to enable the lightweighting of packaging by removing EVOH polymer layers from packaging, as well as offering improved laminate flexibility, SunBar oxygen barrier coatings provide a smooth, homogenous, pinhole-free layer that can be easily overprinted with inks and laminated to a variety of secondary films. SunBar is cost-effective, recyclable, biodegradable and press-ready, allowing for lighter-weight packaging, a reduced carbon footprint, and easy application with few changes to current equipment
Sun Chemical Laser Marking Solution Improves Productivity
Sun Chemical's SunLaseT laser marking solutions is a coating that enables brand owners to add content to both secondary and primary packaging information after the filling and closure of the pack, whether for practical supply chain purposes or as a late stage packaging differentiator.
The SunLase solution prints a transparent or tinted coating onto a packaging substrate during the printing process. After the packaging has been sealed, variable coding graphic information, such as barcodes, QR codes, and "Use By" dates or branding, can be created using a low power CO2 or fiber laser to change the color of the patch to black where marked, with no risks to the packaged product.
Brand Protection Products Offer Anti-Counterfeiting Solutions
Booth visitors will learn how Sun Chemical can help brand owners explore brand protection options to ensure the integrity of their packaging. Sun Chemical offers a variety of security ink solutions including an infrared coding solution called VerigardT, a security system that adds a small quantity of taggants, or chemical markers, to inks, varnishes or coatings for use in any print process on any substrate.
A team of brand protection experts will be on-hand at Sun Chemical's booth to discuss the variety of covert, overt and semi-overt options Sun Chemical offers including hidden logos or words and a variety of color changing inks.
Sun Chemical's SunVetroT Family of UV Screen Inks Provide Options for Glass Decorating
Brand owners and converters can discover the SunVetro VTGL series of UV screen inks, a two-component system designed for printing onto glass, coated metals, and ceramics, as well as mirroring applications. These inks offer excellent adhesion to glass substrates, high gloss, excellent abrasion and chemical resistance, 100 percent solids with no heavy metals or volatile organic compounds, and additives to provide numerous special effects.
