NOVA Chemicals Corporation will share original research on easy-open seal technology at FlexPackCon 2015. The research demonstrates the company’s flexible film expertise and its dedication to delivering greater value to its customers through product and applications development work.
Dan Falla, technical service specialist, NOVA Chemicals, will present the study, Peelable Seal Films with Enhanced Moisture Barrier Properties for Flexible Packaging Applications. Most packages for dry goods, like cereal and crackers, are designed to have the seal layer peel apart while being opened. However, opening these pouches or bags is difficult to do without tearing the packaging. Prompted by a desire to better understand easy open / peelable seal technology, Falla evaluated various types of peelable seal layers and the use of a new high moisture barrier sHDPE in the study.
“We’re always working to develop higher-value products and applications,” said Falla. “This peelable seal research will help our customers and the brand owners who manufacture dry goods packaging deliver the performance that today’s consumers are demanding.”
Falla will present his study at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 28. In addition, Falla is session moderator at FlexPackCon for the morning sessions on Wednesday, October 28. He is a member of the Board of Directors of the Society of Plastics Engineers’ (SPE) Flexible Packaging division, where he serves as Membership Secretary and Councilor, and on the Board that is hosting FlexPackCon.
