Leading industry groups lend support to EXPO PACK Guadalajara

PMMI, The Association for Packaging and Processing Technologies, owner and producer of the PACK EXPO portfolio of trade shows, is pleased to announce four local partners for EXPO PACK Guadalajara 2015 (March 10-12, Expo Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico).

These leading trade associations represent the growth of manufacturing in Mexico’s Western and Bajío regions — particularly the state of Jalisco:

  • The Manufacturing Industry Chamber of Jalisco (CAREINTRA)

  • The Jalisco Chamber of the Graphic Arts Industry (CANAGRAF Jalisco)

  • Food Industry Chamber of Jalisco (CIAJ)

  • Guadalajara Chamber of Commerce (Cámara de Comercio de Guadalajara)

“Jalisco manufactures 60 percent of Mexico’s confectionery products and 25 percent of the country’s beverages, and figures like that are growing. For example, we’re seeing an investment of nearly US$75 million in infrastructure in a new, 30-hectare food cluster in the city of Zapopan,” says Gerardo Barajas, director, EXPO PACK. “EXPO PACK Guadalajara was created to serve this dynamic manufacturing region.”

To date, more than 350 companies have reserved more than 4,000 net square meters of exhibit space at EXPO PACK Guadalajara 2015. This is a significant increase over the 2013 debut edition of the biennial show.

PMMI is also pleased to bring back two popular holdovers from the 2013 event. EXPO PACK Verde will promote exhibitors’ sustainable packaging and processing solutions, and the highly regarded conference programming will once again be organized by the Mexican Packaging Association (AMEE).

“We expect decision makers from throughout the Western and Bajío regions of Mexico. Based on who we met at the 2013 edition, we anticipate roughly half will be from the food and beverage industries, and about 20 percent from the pharmaceutical and personal care industries,” says Barajas.

The vast majority of visitors at the show’s first edition came from western Mexico: 72 percent from the state of Jalisco and 19 percent from Guanajuato, Michoacán, Aguascalientes, Queretaro, Sinaloa, and San Luis Potosi. It’s clearly a growing region:

  • The meat industry has planned five new quality export certified (TIF) slaughterhouses expected to be in operation by 2019. Mexico’s total beef production ranks sixth in the world and Jalisco's three current operations contribute 10.6 percent to that total.

  • Fish farms are also on the increase in Jalisco. From 2012 to 2013, the volume of fishery products from the state boomed from 10,000 tons to 38,000 tons.

  • The tequila market continues to grow, with exports to China on track to grow from its 70,000 bottle initial shipment in August 2013 to more than 10 million liters in the next five years. This makes China the second-largest international market for tequila after the United States.

  • The arrival of international automotive and aviation companies is making the Bajío region's economic growth rates the highest in Latin America.

These industries and the others putting down roots in Bajío and Western Mexico are key markets for packaging and processing solutions. Whether they’re start-ups or large, established firms, they’ll send about 10,000 visitors to EXPO PACK Guadalajara 2015 to explore the newest technology solutions for increased efficiency, productivity and effectiveness.
