Interpack 2014 and Open Factory: More than positive results for Marchesini Group

We are thrilled with the outcome of the recent edition of Interpack. During the tradeshow, we welcomed over a thousand customers from all over the world at our stand Growing younger; everyone greatly appreciated the six stand-alone machines and the five packaging lines on show.

The market is changing at an incredible pace and the only way to keep astride of the latest developments is to meet and talk with customers, comprehend how their needs are changing and get down to work to create tailor-made yet easy-to-use machines. Once again, Interpack turned out to be an excellent opportunity to meet our long-standing customers but also potential ones too. I am proud to say that we took the best possible advantage of this event.

This is what Mr. Maurizio Marchesini, CEO of the Marchesini Group, had to say about his company’s attendance at Interpack 2014. The Marchesini Group in Pianoro, near Bologna, has been participating in the most important packaging trade show in the world since 1981. It took place in Messe Düsseldorf from May 8th to 14th, three years after its last edition. This year, it was attended by 175 thousand visitors, who came from 120 nations and was an enormous success. Our stand Growing Younger also welcomed crowds of visitors: 1200 square meters – organised in different areas, among which were the machinery, a customer care service and a large catering and bar lounge for visitors, who came to Germany from all over the world, especially from Egypt, India, North Europe and East Europe, with particular interest from Russia.

One of the most admired machines was Integra 320, the new integrated robotic blister line, previewed during the show; it is a mix of innovation of the best Italian technology, with a new machine pitch control system, a new cartoning section and a cutting-edge carton opening and product insertion system. Among the other machines on show, greatly admired was the linear filling and capping machine Stery; it was set-up for the first time ever with the Capsy capping unit and is one of the best solutions available on the marketplace for sterile packaging. Also worthy of mention is the Track and Trace line, made up of the labelling machine BL-A420 and the horizontal case packer MC820.

On the occasion of the tradeshow, 150 customers boarded three charter flights, organised by the Marchesini Group, to fly to Italy to the company Headquarters, where celebrations were taking place for the 40th anniversary of its foundation. This year, the traditional Open House organised periodically to meet with everyone who, for some reason or another, is a part of the Marchesini Group, was replaced by the Open Factory, from May 5th to 23rd. 600 international customers were given a guided tour throughout the GYM - our new Growing younger museum, which recollects the history of the company from its foundation to nowadays - the showroom dedicated to the group’s branches and, in the factories of Pianoro, throughout a long trail of 23 complete lines and 200 stand-alone machines for packaging that were set-up to tell the history of the company, backed by new solutions that will soon hit the market. It was a journey in the heart of Made-in-Italy and was greatly applauded by customers and visitors, who were welcomed in true Emilia style.

Speaking of Made-in-Italy and the Italian welcome, the best of Italian gastronomy was also enjoyed, both during the Open Factory and the trade show in Germany. In DĂĽsseldorf, our two great chefs, Giusy and Monica, made 200 kg of tortellini, the typical dish of the Emilia region cuisine, sent to Germany directly from Bologna.

They also served 45 kg of fish, 80 kg of Caprese, 200 kg of pasta, rice and spelt, 8 legs of ham, 350 eggs and 100 kg of tiramisu. During the celebrations in Pianoro too, the company restaurant worked all hands on, serving salami, pasta, fish, desserts and much more. A great feast of flavours that added colour to the Open Factory event and the week in Germany, ending the important events for Marchesini in the best way possible and, in view of the results, they will be the flywheel for other initiatives and new stories of success.
