Healthcare Supply Chain Association (HSCA) President Curtis Rooney today released the following statement in response to the President’s State of the Union address:

“The Healthcare Supply Chain Association and its group purchasing organization (GPO) members are fully committed to helping to ensure access to affordable and effective healthcare, and we were pleased to hear President Obama highlight the importance of increasing access and reducing healthcare costs in his address to Congress.

“GPOs are the purchasing and sourcing partners to hospitals, long-term care facilities and other healthcare providers, and already deliver $36 billion annually in cost savings to hospitals, Medicare and Medicaid, and the American taxpayer.

“We look forward to continuing to work with Congress and the Administration in 2014 to promote policies that reduce health costs and that help confront other challenges currently facing the healthcare supply chain, including the implementation of global standards, unique device identification, track-and-trace legislation, and ongoing efforts to address shortages of critical prescription drugs.”
