Indonesian President, Australian PM Tour BLU-MED Mobile Hospital

Indonesia President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and Australia Prime Minister Julia Gillard toured Royal Darwin Hospital's mobile medical facility during a recent leadership summit.

The meeting provided an opportunity for the two countries to focus on long-term economic development and cooperation.

Australia's National Critical Care and Trauma Response Centre in Darwin manages the 3,000-square-foot field hospital, which was provided by BLU-MED Response Systems. The NCCTRC and its deployable medical facility play a critical role in responding to humanitarian efforts concerning both countries.

The BLU-MED mobile hospital includes inpatient beds along with sections for primary care, emergency care, critical care ward, and surgery. The portable facility is fully air-conditioned and built to withstand the brutal tropical environment of the region. Similar BLU-MED facilities have been deployed for recent disasters such as the Chili and Haiti earthquakes of 2010, last year's Joplin, Missouri tornado, and Tohoku tsunami recovery in Japan.
