PharMEDium Services, LLC Receives U.S. Patent 7,918,830 Entitled Safety Device for Drug Delivery Devices and Containers

PharMEDium Services, LLC announces that the United States Patent and Trademark Office has issued patent number 7,918,830 for a unique safety label for drug delivery containers.

The patent covers both the unique safety label and a drug container (such as a syringe) with the unique safety label thereon.

The patent, entitled "Safety Device for Drug Delivery Devices and Containers," was issued April 5, 2011. The purpose of the patented safety label is to make drug delivery devices or containers safer. The patent describes various versions of drug administration safety labels for drug delivery devices or drug containers such as syringes. This patent also describes methods to enable users to clearly and readily distinguish among different drug containers having different drugs or different concentrations of drugs in a fast and reliable manner. The safety labels described in this patent are configured to minimize the chances of drug administration errors potentially resulting in harm to patients. PharMEDium has filed a U.S. continuation patent application to seek additional patent protection on the safety labels described in this patent.

One version of the safety label displays the drug name in three different orientations: a drug concentration section, a variable information section, and a gradiation viewing section. The first, second and third orientations are different from each other, which enable a user to readily see the drug name regardless of the position and orientation of the drug container.

David N. Jonas, PharMEDium Chairman and CEO commented, "This patent clearly shows PharMEDium's commitment to provide our customers with labels that help ensure easily recognizable drug name and identification. Labeling is yet another important way PharMEDium demonstrates an undistracted focus on patient safety, efficiency and quality in all aspects of drug compounding, distribution, and clinical usage. We are committed to using color-differentiated labeling, tamper-evident packaging, and incorporating proven labeling processes to ensure that the easily identifiable and correct label is on the right drug in the right concentration each time."
