C&T Produce Wholesale Inc., which does business by Houston-based importer L&V Food Supply, is recalling approximately 1,152 lb of peppered frozen, dried Siluriformes fish (catfish) products produced by an establishment in Vietnam that is not eligible to export the fish to the U.S., per an announcement from the USDA’s Food and Safety Inspection Service (FSIS).

In addition to the exporter being ineligible, the products were not presented for import reinspection into the U.S, FSIS says.

2-lb cardboard boxes containing “Peppered Dried Catfish” are subject to recall.

The items were shipped to retail locations in California, Florida, Illinois, Nebraska, North Carolina, Ohio, Tennessee, Texas, and Washington.

FSIS discovered the eligibility problem during routine surveillance activities of imported products at a retail store in California.

The recall falls under the USDA’s “Class “I or “High Risk” classification, which means there is a reasonable probability that the use of the product will cause serious, adverse health consequences or death.

As of Feb. 25, there have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions due to consumption of the products. However, FSIS urges consumers who have purchased them not to consume them. The products should be thrown away or returned to their place of purchase.
