Does an activity tracker impact a patient's health?

A recent study with 600 pre-diabetic and morbidly obese patients was conducted to see how a wearable device impacted them.

What would happen if you took 600 pre-diabetic and morbidly obese patients and gave them an activity tracker?

That's exactly what Cigna set out to find in a controlled, recent, 6-month study where 300 people received BodyMedia activity trackers as well as health coaching advice, and the other group just received the coaching, according to MobiHealthNews.

And the results were interesting.

The study found that about 80 percent said they were more motivated to manage their health after using it, and that 60 percent of participants who were using the medical device continued to participate in coaching calls after the second one.

Also interesting was that 86 percent of those who participated in coaching, and tracked their health with the device were motivated to be active, according to the report.
