HealthPack 2010 focuses on medical device trends

Global standards, operating room nurses survey/focus group, and package design innovations highlight this year's event in San Antonio.

Dedicated to trends in medical device packaging, the annual HealthPack conference will take place March 2-4 at The Sheraton Gunter Hotel in San Antonio.

The event helps medical device packaging professionals generate ideas and solutions to create efficient, innovative packaging. HealthPack 2010 includes a conference agenda combined with tabletop exhibits to provide opportunities for attendees to focus on key industry issues while addressing individual needs with leading suppliers and service vendors. Key agenda events will include the following:

• Wed., March 3 Keynote address: Global standards role in medical device packaging, by Charles Sidebottom, chairman of the Board of Directors, Assn. for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI).

• Voice of the Customer - Part 1: A new and expanded AORN survey, presented by Jennifer Neid Benolken, T.O. Plastics, and Jennifer Blocher, Sealed Air Corp.

• Material & design considerations for thermoforming, by Gary Hawkins, Eastman Chemical.

• Packaging engineering considerations for the control of static electricity in a hospital environment, Thomas M. Reilly, M.D., Sherman Oaks Hospital, Grossman Burn Center, and Bob Vermillion, CPP/Fellow, RMV Technology Group, LLC.

• Medical device package design innovation, by Jordan Montgomery, Medtronic CRM.

• Building value in your company for the professional packaging staff, by Tim Mlsna, R&D director, Packaging Technology, Boston Scientific Corp.

• Voice of the Customer - Part 2: Live nurses focus group reviewing submitted packages, with facilitator—Jennifer Neid Benolken—followed by a question-and-answer session with the nurse panel participants.

• IoPP Medical Device Packaging Technical Committee Meeting.
