A recent FiercePharma article discussed Amgen’s plans to open a smart facility in New Albany, Ohio. Amgen will drop a cool $365 on the plant that will feature its “most advanced” assembly and final product packaging capabilities. The facility will boast 270,000 square feet, and will eventually employ 400 people. It will support Amgen’s efforts as a founding member of OneTen, a group that spans many industries and focuses on hiring Black Americans into well-paying jobs.
The “smart facility” will lean heavily on artificial intelligence and automation in three areas: “advanced industrial automation using robotics and equipment automation, digital quality for automated inspection, testing and real time release of manufactured batches, and data availability to monitor and manage process and operational performance.” Construction is set to begin later this fall.
