Durst Phototechnik Digital Technology GmbH announces low-odor printing for the 13-in.-wide, 7-color Durst Tau 330 UV ink-jet digital label press (shown).

The Tau 330 is designed for short- and medium-run narrow-web applications, running at print speeds to 157 ft/min, even with the seven-color configuration. Production capacity can reach 10,225 sq ft/hr.

Low-odor printing and low-migration inks are essential for pharmaceutical labels and packaging, which must fulfill their informational and protective function without introducing unpleasant odors. Until now, this was difficult to achieve when printing digitally using UV-curable inks.

Durst’s inert gas system built into its flagship Durst Tau 330 web press makes unpleasant odors almost undetectable in printed samples. Along with low-migration UV inks from SunJet (www.sunchemical.com/product/sunjet/), the Durst Tau 330 expands its range of digital printing applications to primary food and pharmaceutical labels and packaging like yogurt lids, blister packs, and bottle seals. SunJet inks meet all the guidelines of the European Printing Ink Assn. (EUPIA) and the Swiss Ordinance on Materials & Articles legislation.
