A Utah-based healthcare system has implemented a video interpretation system to help better communicate with their patients who speak limited English.
Intermountain Healthcare, located in Salt Lake City, started using Stratus Video, a live video interpreting service, earlier this year rolling out use with 750 iPads/stands, which are in use in 22 hospitals and more than 100 clinics.
Stratus Video’s on-demand mobile services will soon be available in the hospital’s helicopters and to hundreds of at-home nurses.
“Even if patients say they understand ‘some’ English, it’s important for medical discussions and instructions to be conducted in the patient’s native language,” said David Fetterolf, President, Stratus Video. “Otherwise, there is too great a potential for misunderstanding and costly or fatal errors."
