There’s been a lot of talk lately about a contraceptive pill for men, but the latest new has been described as a “major step forward.” According to a March 18th article from The Telegraph, dimethandrolone undecanoate, or DMAU, tested successfully on 83 men without diminishing sex drive.

The main obstacle to developing a daily pill for men is the fact that men metabolize and clear out hormones too quickly. However, this drug employs a long-chain fatty acid to slow down the clearance so just one dose can be taken daily.

Results of the trial showed that the pill only worked if taken with food. At 400 mg of the DMAU, the highest dose administered, subjects showed low levels of circulating testosterone, but very few subjects reported symptoms associated with testosterone deficiency.
