The fate of prescription drug prices

Will Walgreens' purchase of Rite Aid give the company more leverage when it comes to negotiating with big pharma?

What will happen to prescription drug prices? That's the question the pharma community is speculating about after Walgreens announced it will buy competitor Rite Aid.

According to an ABC News report, the deal will give Walgreens, "additional purchasing power in negotiating prices with drug companies."

The move could help put Walgreens in a better spot when it comes to working with drug companies on prices, because it will have more prescriptions being filled.

However, the question still remains whether or not, if a lower cost is negotiated, will it trickle down to the consumer.

Walgreens announced they would be purchasing Rite Aid for $9.41 billion in cash.
