MEDICA and COMPAMED 2015 continue international course with new show days

Starting this year, MEDICA, World Forum for Medicine, and COMPAMED, High Tech Solutions for Medical Technology, will be held concurrently on new show days: from Monday to Thursday (instead of Wednesday to Saturday for MEDICA and Wednesday to Friday for COMPAMED) at the fairgrounds in Düsseldorf, Germany. The 2015 dates for MEDICA and COMPAMED are November 16 – 19.

“This significant change is the result of the intensive evaluation of exhibitor and visitor surveys as well as coordination with industry associations. Focusing on the “normal” working days of the week (instead of Wednesday to Saturday as in the past) will make a more even visitor flow in the exhibition halls on all days possible, enabling exhibitor presentations as well as their stand infrastructure to be utilized in a more consistent manner,” explained Joachim Schäfer, Managing Director of Messe Düsseldorf.

MEDICA is renowned for not only presenting solutions for individual medical specialist disciplines but solutions for the complete “workflow” of patient treatment. Again this year, about 4,800 exhibitors from more than 60 nations will use MEDICA to offer the entire range of new products, services and processes for impatient and outpatient care. No other event worldwide offers such a wealth of innovations.

A noticeable increase in exhibit space bookings has been recorded from the U.S., China, the Netherlands, France, Spain and South Korea as well as Turkey and Saudi Arabia.

Clearly structured according to halls, MEDICA 2015 will focus on: Electromedicine/medical technology (more than 2,500 exhibitors), laboratory technology/diagnostics, physiotherapy / orthopedic technology, commodities and consumables, information and communication technology, medical furniture and specialist furnishings as well as building technology for hospitals and physicians’ offices.

Conferences closely associated with the trade fair
International visitor participation at MEDICA is high. Of the almost 130,000 visitors at MEDICA 2014, more than 50% came from countries other than Germany (from a total of around 120 nations). In recent years, in order to also meet the needs of the international attendees, the program of accompanying conferences and forums integrated into the trade show have been fundamentally restructured and aligned at a more international level with many events held in English.

This year again, the MEDICA EDUCATION CONFERENCE which was first organized in 2014 by the German Society for Internal Medicine (DGIM), will offer an impressive interdisciplinary program. With the motto “Science Meets Medical Technology”, the four daily topics have been selected in accordance to the medical technological innovations presented at the trade show. Key topics at this year’s MEDICA EDUCATION CONFERENCE will include: Surgery and new operational techniques (Nov. 16), imaging, endoscopy and interventions (Nov. 17), geriatrics, nutritional medicine and palliative care (Nov. 18) as well as infectiology, infection and laboratory medicine (Nov. 19).

Custom-made offers for trends and innovations
The MEDICA conference program presentations will also be connected to the topics of the trade show. The 38th German Hospital Day, a leading event for the directors and management of German hospitals, will address current political topics and “practical issues” such as hospital IT and human resource management. This year, the German Hospital Day will be complemented by the European Hospital Conference, providing a platform for top decision-makers from European hospitals to exchange their expertise.

The conference for disaster and military medicine, DiMiMED, as well as the MEDICA MEDICINE + SPORTS CONFERENCE (respectively on November 17 and 18 in the Congress Center Düsseldorf South), will also be important highlights. Both will be geared towards an international audience – with lectures held in English.

For high-level military representatives, MEDICA exhibitors will offer an abundance of solutions for very special issues – ranging from equipment for emergency treatment, telemedicine applications for the secure transfer of data between vehicles and military hospitals to a complete array of surgery equipment and customized turnkey building modules.

The MEDICA MEDICINE + SPORTS CONFERENCE and the innovations presented by the exhibitors will also be closely linked. The use of so-called wearables and smartwatches is on the rise, with sensors detecting vital signs of relevance for sports medicine specialists providing treatment. The Wearable Technologies Show in Hall 15 will showcase the latest technologies such as fine sensors integrated into textiles, ear clips or plug-in attachments for smartphones which can determine heart rate, oxygen saturation or body temperature.

The MEDICA PHYSIO CONFERENCE organized by the Thieme Publishing House will also be dedicated to trend topics. With its treatment-oriented presentations, it will address physiotherapists, sports medicine specialists and orthopedists (November 18 and 19 in the Congress Center DĂĽsseldorf South).

Forums integrated into the trade show
In addition to the MEDICA conference program, the numerous forums integrated directly into the trade show will also present significant developments. Forums include the MEDICA HEALTH IT FORUM and the MEDICA CONNECTED HEALTHCARE FORUM (both in hall 15) as well as the MEDICA TECH FORUM (medical technology industry innovations and political, economic and legal framework conditions for the field of high-tech medicine; hall 12). In addition, the MEDICA ECON FORUM (hall 15), jointly organized by Messe DĂĽsseldorf and the German health insurance company "Techniker Krankenkasse", will cover benefit assessment and funding innovation.

COMPAMED – suppliers as innovation drivers
Modern diagnostics and therapeutic procedures do not only require a high level of product development expertise from the medical technology industry but also from its suppliers - which are presented at COMPAMED 2015. This trade fair will take place concurrently with MEDICA from November 16 - 19, 2015. At the leading international platform for suppliers, more than 700 exhibitors (in halls 8a and 8b) will offer their technological solutions and services for various requirements and tasks of medical technology providers – from new materials, components, primary products, packaging and services to complete custom manufacturing.

This unique combination allows MEDICA and COMPAMED to represent the entire process chain and the full range of medical products, devices, and instruments. Together, they occupy the entire DĂĽsseldorf exhibition center (19 halls). As in previous years, only one ticket is necessary to visit both MEDICA and COMPAMED.
