Improving medication use and adherence is a system-wide challenge. With health reform changing the dynamics between delivery systems, payers, pharmacies and pharmaceutical companies, there is an opportunity to go beyond programs that focus on fill rates to improve coordination of health services that can positively impact patient health outcomes. To help address this growing public health issue, the 2nd Annual World Congress Summit to Improve Adherence & Enhance Patient Engagement will convene leaders across the healthcare industry to share innovations and strategies that address the challenges of achieving better adherence. The summit will be held at the Hyatt at the Bellevue in Philadelphia on March 10-11, 2014.

With approximately 50 percent of patients not taking their medications as prescribed across disease states and health conditions, moving the needle even a little toward better adherence can make a big difference. Poor medication adherence can lead to worsening of disease, serious and avoidable health risks, increased hospitalizations and even death. The annual cost of non-adherence in the United States is estimated to be $317 billion, and the pharmaceutical industry alone loses $190 billion each year due to this issue.

In partnership with MeadWestvaco (MWV) Healthcare – a global leader in designing and manufacturing innovative solutions to enhance patient medication adherence and child safety – World Congress will gather more than 40 speakers who will discuss ways in which the widespread use of innovative medication adherence solutions can have a meaningful, positive impact on public health. The agenda focuses on the theme of collaboration and many of the panel discussions offer diverse perspectives and real-world scenarios.

“As an organization committed to advancing adherence solutions, we look forward to an engaging dialogue with many of the nation’s top adherence experts,” said conference chairperson Elizabeth Whalley Buono, vice president, Global Quality, External and Regulatory Affairs, MWV Healthcare.

“Our focus at the conference will be on addressing the daunting challenges of medication non-adherence by putting forth collaborative inter-stakeholder solutions.
