Bluestar Silicones, a global integrated silicones supplier, has announced it will support select long-term implant applications as part of its strategy to expand its presence in the global healthcare market.  The announcement was made at the Medical Design & Manufacturing (MD&M) West show Feb. 11-13 in Anaheim.

Bluestar Silicones’ new facility in York, S.C., will be the global center of excellence for the company’s implant-grade liquid silicone rubber (LSR), high consistency rubber (HCR) and room temperature vulcanized (RTV) rubber. With prior experience in long-term implantable applications, Bluestar Silicones offers the broad know-how and unique formulations and master files to support the market’s specific needs.

“Focused long-term growth in the implant market is a natural evolution for Bluestar Silicones,” says Pascal Chalvon Demersay, chief executive officer, Bluestar Silicones.  “We have a strong global base in healthcare and now, with our new cutting-edge facility in York, we are well positioned to build upon the momentum we’ve generated.”

As part of its global growth strategy, Bluestar Silicones has made a significant investment in North America with the 2012 opening of the York facility. The investment includes state-of-the-art clean rooms and enhanced systems to ensure the highest level of quality.

The company relocated its Ventura, Calif., and Rock Hill, S.C., operations to this 226,000 sq ft facility.

“Our new plant will serve as the cornerstone for our success in this market and other specialty areas,” said J. Christopher York, president, Bluestar Silicones North America.

According to Mr. York, the new facility marks the first milestone in the implementation of the company’s ten-year strategic plan to position Bluestar Silicones as a significant silicones player in the North American market and the global healthcare market.

“Our goal is to be the most responsive partner in the marketplace,” said Mr. York.  We are investing in people, products and our workshops, building a functional expertise that customers appreciate and trust.”

In December 2013, Bluestar Silicones achieved certification under the Responsible Care® Management System (RCMS) after three rigorous external audits. This system ensures all processes and procedures are documented, executed and tested on an ongoing basis.
