DSM is planning to build a 70,000-sq-ft, next-generation nutritional premix plant in Tonganoxie, Kans., which will supply nutritional premixes for use in branded pet food products worldwide. Projected to break ground this July, the facility is expected to be fully operational early in 2025. It will create approximately 30 jobs.

The state-of-the-art facility will feature increased process automation for traceability and automated weight verification, while its precision micro-batching capability will allow the automated addition of a variety of ingredients to help the company create more offerings for the pet food industry.

The plant also will support the company’s sustainability initiatives, with automated mixing vessels that will reduce waste by decreasing flushes necessary for sequencing. It also will operate on 100% renewable electricity.
