When you think of the Guinness Book of World Records, you probably consider the guy with fingernails so long that they drag on the ground, or the lady with hair twice the length of her body, not necessarily medical devices. However, a recent Medgadget article noted a new device from OmniVision Technologies that just won the record for “The Smallest Commercially Available Image Sensor.”
Sure, it’s not as anecdotal as the woman with smallest corseted waist (15” in case you were wondering), but the sensor measures just 0.575 mm x 0.575 mm x 0.232 mm. It provides 200 x 200 pixels of acquisition at 30 frames per second, and it generates minimal heat allowing it to be used for longer periods of time near healthy body tissue.
