“The new material is better because the finished trays are so much clearer,” says Markus Dux of Vital, which is located in Erkelenz, Germany.
Evertis is the supplier of the new material, which Evertis describes as a APET/PE Pel material with a thickness of 400 microns. Lidding material, which did not change when the new forming web entered the picture, includes a layer of EVOH for gas barrier purposes.

The Vital sandwiches include such things as hamburgers, hot dogs, chicken nuggets, and other tasty snacks. Thermoforming is done on a Multivac R530 or R330. Package contents weigh between 100 and 1,400 g and sell for 1 Euro to 2.50 Euro depending on variety. Refrigerated shelf life is 30 days.
