Attacking medical devices

The threat of medical devices being compromised to access sensitive hospital data is growing.

"Medical information can be worth 10 times as much as a credit card number.”

That was a sentence written in a Reuters news story and recently quoted in a Computerworld article about how hackers are using medical devices to steal confidential data from hospital systems.

Scary stuff.

According to Computerworld, cybersecurity firm, TrapX released a report about three targeted hospital attacks, "which exploited an attack vector the researchers called MEDJACK for medical device hijack."

""MEDJACK has brought the perfect storm to major healthcare institutions globally … Medical devices complimented by the MEDJACK attack vector may be the hospital’s 'weakest link in the chain'," the article quoted the the report as saying.

In each instance a medical device was compromised and used as a backdoor to access sensitive hospital data.
