(Washington, DC) earlier this month. Formerly known as the Top Packaging Awards, the redesigned Flexible Packaging Achievement Awards recognized flexible packaging in four categories: Packaging Excellence, Technical Innovation, Printing Achievement and Environmental Achievement.

Developed by United Signature Foods, LLC, Northbrook, IL, the Jewel Foods soup pouch structure is made by Alcan-Lawson Mardon, North America (Northbrook, IL). The 5.5- mil material is a coextrusion of polyester and ethylene vinyl alcohol, flexo-printed in eight colors.

Like the pouch, the HD-Series industrial packaging material also won the Highest Achievement Award. Designed to provide oxygen and water vapor barrier, as well as puncture- and tear-resistance, the material was developed by Cadillac Products Packaging (Dallas, GA). Currently, the material is used to cover military jet engines in storage, and for welding and soldering component packaging. (JB)
