Premium Labels & Packaging Solutions (PLPS) has unveiled a company-wide initiative that accelerates the converter’s commitment to sustainability.

"As a proud member of the label and packaging community, we embrace our responsibility to make eco-conscious choices that protect our planet,” said CEO Chris Payne.  We are driven by the belief that sustainable practices inspire sustainable results. That’s why we approached this initiative with a holistic mindset, impacting every facet of our business—from our raw materials to our products to our plant operations and, of course, our people.”

Earlier this year, the company updated its mission statement, which now reads: We strive to be a trusted partner to our clients by enhancing their products, supporting their success, and driving positive environmental impact.  Payne notes, “Including the phrase ‘positive environmental impact’ in communicating our brand was intentional.  It gave us a new lens through which to view our work for clients and within the PLPS culture,” said Payne.

EARTH+ LAUNCH

A cornerstone of PLPS’ initiative is the launch of EARTH+, an exclusive portfolio of products that reflects the company’s commitment to sustainability in the materials they use for clients and their dedication to reducing their environmental impact.  All EARTH+ product components meet APR critical guidance.  The current line is 100% recyclable, and more products are being developed to enhance the portfolio.

·     PLPS EARTH+ PS is a line of Pressure Sensitive Labels for both PET and HDPE containers

·     PLPS EARTH+ SHRINK is a line of Shrink Sleeves for PET and HDPE

The label and shrink sleeve products are considered the next generation of recycled packaging. The line simplifies recycling for consumers because they no longer need to remove the labels and sleeves from their containers.

·     PLPS EARTH+ FLEX is a line of Flexible Packaging that allows for stunning photo-quality graphics while reducing environmental impact.   This product offers an excellent oxygen and moisture barrier, making it suitable for most dry goods. It complies with the How2Recycle program and can be dropped off at participating stores, including major retailers.

“Many of our clients have told us that they want to move towards sustainable packaging but are overwhelmed because it can be a complicated process with numerous ramifications, said Leslie Gurland, VP of Sales, and Marketing. “We understand that transitioning to sustainable packaging is challenging, which is why our experts provide end-to-end support.  We’ll collaborate with all stakeholders to ensure the final product meets both aesthetic goals and recyclability criteria.  Our technical specialists can be on press during trials, at the contract manufacturing facility during product filling, and at recycling centers to ensure the final product passes,” added Gurland.

SILVER ECOVADIS CERTIFICATION BADGE

“Once we started the product development process for PLPS EARTH+, we knew we couldn’t stop there,” said Gurland.  Our mantra became ‘every day should be Earth Day,’ which led us to undergo an assessment of our practices by EcoVadis.”

“In 2024, Ecovadis received applications from over 150,000 companies in 185 countries. We are honored to have scored a Silver Badge, which signifies that we rated in the Top 15% of all companies, a significant achievement for our first assessment,” added Gurland.  This globally recognized platform evaluates sustainability criteria across four core themes: Environment, Labor & Human Rights, Ethics, and Sustainable Procurement.

EMPLOYEE ENGAGEMENT

Rounding out the company’s efforts are programs that involve its employees.  Each plant location actively reduces environmental harm through various initiatives, including ink, water, solvent, and waste reduction.

Finally, the company has established the PLPS Community Cares initiative to encourage employee engagement in events that align with its mission of driving positive environmental impact. To encourage participation, the company offers paid time off.
