Leaders in Italy praised Marchesini for investing in plant and packaging equipment during difficult economic times.

The opening ceremony for the new Marchesini Group facility took place in front of the corporate headquarters. The event, attended by 2,500 people includng employees, suppliers, and friends, also saw the highest national and local authorities taking part in the ceremony, which included Antonio Tajani, Vice President of the European Commission; Vasco Errani, President of the Emilia Romagna Region; Massimo Scaccabarozzi, President of Farmindustria; S. E. Bishop Ernesto Vecchi, Auxiliary Bishop Emeritus; and Gabriele Minghetti, Mayor of Pianoro.

With more than 5,400 sq m, the new facility, which cost about 7.5 million Euro and is dedicated to the assembly of complete packaging lines, represents Marchesini Group’s latest ambitious challenge: to keep investing substantial resources despite the serious difficulties that the Italian economy is facing. The idea behind this endeavor is explained by Maurizio Marchesini, CEO of the Group and Regional Chairman of Unindustria, in his opening speech: “Not only is the new facility a company asset, but also proof of our confidence in the future, an attitude that we have always had.”

The future has never been so uncertain for Italian entrepreneurs, harshly hit by a recession that seems to have no end yet. Maurizio Marchesini said, “The strong creative force of Italian people is in these days disheartened, withdrawn, exhausted by delays and decades of conflict against each other. But when a group of people shares a common goal, they can achieve the impossible.”

Marchesini Group’s objective is to continue to grow worldwide without losing contact with the roots that made it the spearhead of the so-called Packaging Valley in the Emilia Romagna Region, with a turnover of 204 million of Euro in 2012 and an increase of 8,5% over the previous year. To achieve such results one needs winning ideas, the same that earned Maurizio Marchesini the title of Cavaliere del Lavoro, delivered by the President of Italy Giorgio Napolitano on Oct. 15, for his service to industry and his contribution to social development, employment, technological advancement, and the growth of the prestige of “Made in Italy” in the world.

Vice President of the European Commission Antonio Tajani congratulated Maurizio Marchesini on “having drawn a true and winning model of doing business, to be taken as a reference as it is able to internationalize while keeping the production in Italy, ensuring in this way training and work for our young people.” Also, Vasco Errani, President of Emilia Romagna Region, said, “Credit to the Marchesini family and to the employees of the Group, for their important contribution to our region, weakened by the earthquake of 2012.”

The President of Farmindustria, Massimo Scaccabarozzi, said, “The praise of the Italian pharmaceutical industry, for which the company of Pianoro is an essential element. And the Mayor of Pianoro,  Gabriele Minghetti underlined the “courageous economic choice that helps the manufacturing spin-off in Emilia that has been so harshly hit by the crisis,” while the Bishop Ernesto Vecchi concluded the ceremony by blessing of the new plant.
