Smithfield Foods Closing 2 More Meat Processing Facilities

Will employ processes and protocols that follow the strict guidance of the CDC and expanded personnel safety technologies and equipment when plants reopen

Smithfield Foods is closing its Cudahy, Wisconsin dry sausage and bacon plant for two weeks. It also is closing its Martin City, Missouri facility, which produces spiral and smoked hams and receives raw material from the company’s Sioux Falls, South Dakota facility, which is closed indefinitely. The Cudahy and Martin City facilities are located in close proximity to urban areas with high levels of COVID-19 community spread. Essential personnel will be conducting rigorous deep cleaning and sanitization at the facilities.

The company has established a $100 million Responsibility Bonus fund that will pay employees who miss work due to COVID-19 exposure or diagnosis.
