Designed to replace laminations for packaging prophylactics, Alcan Packaging-Medical Flexibles Americas' Tear Anywhere (TA) film (shown) is a multilayer, coextruded substrate designed to perform with similar characteristics to competitive easy-tear films. The DuPont Gold-winning material offers tear properties and barrier characteristics. TA may be used as a laminating substrate, or as a barrier film, and can be heat-sealed to itself or other polyethylene films. It can also be used with other packaging materials.
Child-resistance, senior-friendliness, patient compliance, product protection, brand differentiation, and the ability to run on existing blister packaging equipment are the key benefits that earned a DuPont Silver award for Shellpak from MeadWestvaco Healthcare Packaging. A two-piece "shell," Shellpak is injection-molded of FDA-grade high-impact polystyrene. It functions as a secondary pack for blister-packed pharmaceutical pills and tablets.
Autopak is a three-ply structure from Alcan Packaging-Medical Flexibles Americas for in-hospital sterilization of products such as medical trays used for surgery. The structure is converted and hermetically sealed into a three-sided pouch by Cardinal Health for sale primarily to hospitals. A portion of the DuPont Silver award-winning pouch's fourth side is open for filling a device requiring steam sterilization. The structure resists abuse and is transparent, permitting visual identification of the contents.
