ESS Technologies, Inc. will celebrate a quarter of a century supplying high performance automated packaging machinery and robotics. Founded in 1993 by Kevin and Linda Browne as an engineering, sales, and service (ESS) outlet for other package machinery OEMS, the company soon began manufacturing our own line of automated packaging machines. ESS partnered with FANUC Robotics (now FANUC America) as an Authorized System Integrator (ASI) after meetings between the two companies in 1999. In 2000 ESS debuted our now-widely deployed Model V30 Vertical Robotic Case Packer at the Pack Expo Show, which was held in Chicago that year. At the 2002 Pack Expo show, ESS debuted its popular MB Series Monoblock Filler/Capper.

Today, ESS is a FANUC Strategic Partner for secondary packaging of pharmaceuticals. Our product line has expanded to include fully automated packaging machines for manufacturers of pharmaceuticals, medical devices, cosmetics and consumer goods. ESS will be exhibiting in Booth N-828 at the Healthcare Packaging Expo, co-located with Pack Expo in Chicago this year, with demonstrations of our latest V30 Robotic Case Packer, which will incorporate the new ESS predictive maintenance system along with FANUC’s new “ZDT” (zero down time) technology. The application monitors the machine’s and the robot’s overall performance, tracks routine maintenance, and alerts operators about impending issues before they cause a line to go down. ESS will also be exhibiting our CEL5 Case packer in the Antares booth S-3760. This machine will have an integrated Antares vision system and other features including quick changeover and servo-driven product collation.

As the company grew, ESS continued to expand our line of automated packaging machines and integrated robotic cells. In addition to compact, high performance solutions for filling and capping bottles, jars, vials and syringes, ESS now offers a full line of automatic horizontal and top load cartoners, robotic top load and side load case packers, wrap around case packers, robotic pallet cells and TaskMate® robotic systems for machine loading and unloading, pick-and-place, and inspection. The full product line allows ESS to offer complete end-to-end packaging lines that handle primary and secondary packaging processes. Our turnkey solutions ensure seamless communication between our engineering team and our customers to design a high-performance packaging line.

ESS is dedicated to using state-of-the-art technology in its packaging machines, updating designs as new solutions for servo drives, controls, safety components and other technologies come to market. According to company president, Kevin Browne, “ESS has always maintained a strong engineering focus, designing the right machine for the application and the market. We regularly support efforts for continuous improvement and industry training to keep our packaging machines in the forefront of technology and affordability.” As ESS approaches the next twenty-five years, the company will continue to design and manufacture innovative packaging machines.

The V30 Robotic Case Packer that ESS will demonstrate in Chicago October 14-17, 2018 embraces Kevin Browne’s focus on product innovation and improvement. ESS engineers have redesigned the V30 as an “intelligent machine” that incorporates predictive maintenance data technology to monitor the machine’s operational status and alert the operator if maintenance is needed or if the machine is experiencing issues such as excessive heat, excessive vibration or other parameter outside of optimum performance. Join us in Booth N-828 to learn more about the ESS predictive maintenance system and the FANUC Zero Down Time technology.
