Both are Minneapolis-area companies, and Western Container Company will continue to operate its steel, fiber and plastic drum business from its existing facility in New Hope, Minn. Liberty Carton Company is one of the Liberty Diversified International (LDI) family of companies.

According to LDI Chairman and CEO Mike Fiterman, "This acquisition will provide us with important additional reach and customers in our packaging business."

Liberty Carton Company (LCC) is a nationally recognized designer and manufacturer of corrugated packaging containers and point-of-purchase displays. Western Container Company’s packaging products portfolio includes corrugated cartons and boxes as well as packing materials.

"The businesses are complementary. In fact we've been a longtime supplier of Western, so we're happy to integrate Western's packaging operations with our own," Fiterman said. LCC General Manager Craig Musselman will oversee the combined operation.

Fiterman said LCC will continue to use both the Western Container brand and its sister Bargain Container brand for the next several months.

As both companies are privately held, purchase price was not disclosed, and five of Western's packaging product employees will become LCC employees.
