The International Society of Automation (ISA) and its Premier Strategic Partner for calibration, Beamex, will co-host a free webinar 3 December 2015 on advanced temperature calibration topics.

The webinar, which will be held from 12 p.m. to 1:30 p.m., Eastern Standard Time, will feature three temperature instrumentation experts: Tom Brans, Business Analyst at Honeywell; Ned Espy, Technical Director at Beamex; and Roy Tomalino, Professional Services Engineer at Beamex.

Temperature is the most common and frequently measurable variable in the process industry. It influences many physical features of matter and has a significant impact on quality, energy consumption and environmental emissions. Even so, proper procedures for managing and calibrating temperature instruments are often overlooked or not understood.

This webinar, the second of a two-part series, will begin with the complex applications that drive temperature measurement, such as dual element sensors and checking multiple sensors. Other advanced topics, such as end-to-end temperature loop calibration and partial loops, along with best practice applications, will be discussed. The webinar will also include several calibration demonstrations.

“If you didn’t attend the first temperature webinar, don’t worry,” emphasizes Tomalino. “Part two is more advanced, but stands on its own. I’m anxious to see what questions the audience brings up in this next session because the feedback from attendees is what makes the presentation more valuable. This is so much more than just three guys in the industry talking about temperature. When you add the collected experience of everybody in attendance, the impact of the shared knowledge is augmented synergistically and noticed during the question-and-answer sessions.”

“Advanced temperature calibration helps ensure the accuracy of the temperature measurement devices so critical to modern process automation,” says Jennifer Infantino Halsey, ISA's Director of Marketing & Communications. “ISA is pleased to co-sponsor this second free webinar with Beamex as part of our commitment to educate our members and customers and others in the automation community on topics of significant interest and value.”

Together, Brans, Espy and Tomalino possess more than 40 years of temperature instrumentation experience.

Brans has worked with temperature, pressure, level and flow products at Honeywell Process Solutions and Emerson Process Management.

Espy has promoted calibration management at Beamex for almost 20 years. He continues to develop best practices for calibration, with a focus on temperature, pressure and multivariable instruments. A consistent editorial contributor to leading industry publications, Espy has received significant recognition within the automation industry. Recently, he contributed to the 416-page book, The Engineer’s Guide to Industrial Temperature Measurement. Each day, Espy teaches calibration best practices and provides technical support to end users and the Beamex sales team in North America.

Tomalino, with more than 15 years of technical training experience, has served as a trainer, certified developer and technical advisor. He also worked at Honeywell’s Fort Collins, Colorado office, where he supported the “DocuMint” calibration management software and Honeywell’s portable calibrator. Today, he conducts educational training sessions and provides technical support to Beamex customers in North America.
