Easyfairs has acquired Northeral, organiser of Algiers based Maghreb Pharma Expo, the largest pharmaceutical technology trade show in Africa. Through this acquisition, Easyfairs has extended its geographical reach into Africa and its sector reach into the international pharmaceutical industry.
Olivier-Hicham Allard, Founder and Managing Director of Northeral commented “This is an excellent development for Northeral. As part of Easyfairs we will have access to the expertise and tools of one of the most professional and globally active organisations in business-to-business event management.”
Matt Benyon, Head of UK and Global at Easyfairs, added, “We were very impressed by the rapid success of Maghreb Pharma Expo. Since its launch in 2012, it has grown to attract 167 international exhibitors and over 1600 visitors. We see great synergies in combining Northeral’s local expertise with Easyfairs’ experience in launching and geo-cloning events.”
Easyfairs will use this combination of energy, experience and local expertise to launch new events throughout the fast-developing Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. “Together we already have some exciting and ambitious projects in view,” said Allard.
Olivier-Hicham Allard holds dual Belgian-Algerian nationality and has spent the past three years as an Algiers-based entrepreneur. “The Algerian government has recently announced a massive infrastructure investment of $285 billion over the next five years. Algeria is also supporting the rapid growth of an indigenous pharmaceutical industry. There are approximately 80 pharmaceutical plants already active and another 150 or so under construction,” explained Allard. Similar developments are in progress in many other MENA countries.
Maghreb Pharma Expo is a truly international event. 90% of exhibitors come from outside Algeria, with companies from as far afield as India, East Asia and the United States joining European and North African suppliers. Altogether, 23 countries were represented at the previous event which attracted 1,610 pharmaceutical professionals to the Hilton Hotel Exhibition Centre in Algiers.
“This acquisition marks a further major step forward for Artexis Easyfairs in its global expansion and demonstrates the universal appeal of our multi-format approach to organising events, both directly and with local partners. We are also excited by the prospect of deepening our engagement with the pharmaceutical community, who already know us in Europe through our Lab Innovations brand,” concluded Benyon.
