Port Jersey Logistics, a leading third party logistics service provider, recently hosted students from The College of New Jersey as part of an ongoing field assignment program intended to add real-world experience to classroom instruction.
Selected students from an Operations Management course received an interactive tour designed to expose them to the dynamics and complexities of a specific productive operation; namely, a logistics provider offering a comprehensive menu of transportation and warehousing services. The group project also included an in-depth on-site interview with one of Port Jersey Logistics’ senior operations managers.
During the full-day excursion, students aimed to add to their recently gained knowledge on a variety of logistics related topics, including productivity improvement, quality assurance, production planning/capacity management, information systems, and issues pertaining to technology and future investments.
“Student exposure programs such as TCNJ’s are terrific tools to help future logisticians bridge the gap between classroom education and hands-on experience,” said Robert Russo, President of Port Jersey Logistics. “Third-party logistics providers such as ours are so multi-faceted that personal experience is a valuable aspect of overall education. We’re proud to partner with TCNJ on such a helpful, successful program.”
