Amcor Flexibles is proud to announce that FormpackĀ® with Advanced Blister Design has won a WorldStar award at the 2014 competition organized by the World Packaging Organization (WPO).

This award recognizes a major advancement in Amcor's FormpackĀ® product range, which is used to protect pharmaceutical solids such as tablets, capsules or powders.

The Advanced Blister Design is based on an existing blister pack, which was re-engineered in such a way that the material consumption has been reduced by more than 30%, while simultaneously improving the moisture protection of the drug by over 40%.

Advanced developments in the design software allowed for an accurate simulation of moisture diffusion and for a precise evaluation of blister performances. As a result of this improvement six tablets, rather than the previous four, are able to be packed in a blister with identical dimensions.

This design simulation tool is a critical component in the full suite of packaging design and development tools innovated by Amcor Flexibles, which allow the optimum selection and design of blister materials.

Andrea Della Torre, R&D Pharma Director at Amcor Flexibles Europe & Americas, explained the significance of the award, "Amcor Flexibles is particularly proud to receive this WorldStar award as it recognizes our continuous effort in developing sustainable packaging solutions. Our customers acknowledge Amcor Flexibles' commitment in this field and we are honoured to be distinguished by an independent panel of experts for the third time this year after the Alufoil Trophy and the DuPont Packaging Innovation Awards."

Representatives of 24 packaging associations, members of WPO (World Packaging Organization), judged 249 packaging projects, from 35 countries, that applied for WorldStar Awards 2014. The judging session took place on November 7th in Barcelona (Spain) and results were officially announced on November 26th.

To be eligible to enter WorldStar Awards the packaging must be a winner in a national or multinational competition that is recognized by WPO.
