Eastman Chemical Company wins gold in Best in Biz Awards 2013

Eastman Chemical Company (NYSE:EMN) has been named a gold winner in the "Most Socially / Environmentally Responsible Company of the Year" category in the third annual Best in Biz Awards, the only business awards program judged by members of the press and industry analysts.

This content was written and submitted by the supplier. It has only been modified to comply with this publication’s space and style.

Eastman was recognized for its implementation of a series of employee sustainability and advocacy programs to integrate sustainability "from the inside out," as well as operational highlights including an overall energy intensity reduction of 2.5 percent in 2012 compared to 2011(equal to GHG emissions from 28,000 cars,) and being on track to meet its pledge to have two-thirds of its revenues come from sustainably-advantaged products by 2015.

Achievements cited included being the only chemical company to receive ENERGY STAR® Partner of the Year for the second consecutive year and being named 2013 Responsible Care® Company of the Year in the large company category. Eastman joined and is an active participant in the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD), a global organization of companies committed to sustainable development and promoting the role of eco-efficiency, innovation and corporate social responsibility.  In addition, Eastman released its Global Reporting Initiative in 2012 and a Sustainability Progress Report in 2013.

"We are honored to be a Gold level winner in the Most Socially / Environmentally Responsible Company of the Year category in the Best in Biz Awards," said Godefroy Motte, Eastman's Chief Sustainability Officer. "As a specialty chemical company, Eastman is focused on both responding to and creating demand for sustainable solutions that satisfy the needs of a changing world. This recognition is a tribute to Eastman men and women around the world who continue to make sustainability part of our culture."

This year's Best in Biz Awards program, focusing on companies based or operating in North America, received more than 500 entries from a wide array of public and private companies of all sizes and from a variety of industries and geographic regions in the U.S. and Canada.

"The winning entries this year show a high degree of innovation combined with a keen focus on business and consumer services," said Jack M. Germain, ECT News Network, who returned to the Best in Biz Awards judging panel for the third time. "Often products seek a novel way to repurpose an already successful idea. This year's competition proves that products which bring new approaches to solving vendor and consumer needs can build a better business environment. This certainly raises the bar for next year's contestants."

Best in Biz Awards 2013 honors were presented in more than 50 categories, including Company of the Year, Fastest-Growing Company of the Year, Most Innovative Company of the Year, Best Place to Work, Technology Department of the Year, Executive of the Year, Most Innovative Product of the Year, Best New Product of the Year, PR Campaign of the Year and Website of the Year.
