Two pharmaceutical tubes win awards

Tube Council competition awards Equate and Rexall tubes, constructed through a partnership between MJS Packaging and Essel Propack.

Equate Beauty Acne Foaming Wash, a premium Walmart brand, won the Best Pharmaceutical Tube Award. For this tube, MJS worked with Essel Propack America to create a silver foil decoration along with the flexographic printing with hot foil to achieve a special look.

MJS Packaging partnered with Essel Propack America, manufacturer of laminated and seamless or rextruded plastic tubes, to construct two tubes that won awards in the Tube Council’s 2013 Tube of the Year Awards competition. The competition included 50 entries from five market categories submitted by Tube Council member companies.

The custom-constructed 328-micron tube features a plastic barrier laminate that maintains the stability and strength of Benzoyl Peroxide used in the product. A 2-in. white dispensing cap from Essel completes the package. The tube not only regains its shape after squeezing, but also stands out on crowded retailer shelves.

The Tube Council recognized Rexall Lubricating Jelly as “Best Pharmaceutical Runner-Up.” According to MJS, the key for this extruded mono polyethylene tube was providing an intricate flower design to precisely match an outer carton. A direct-print, wet-on-wet process was used, which was more complex and could have led to color contamination or bleeding. Colors were achieved via six-color offset printing. The finished product was lightweight to allow effortless squeezing and dispensing, and a stand out on the shelf due to its vibrant colors not often seen in generic over-the-counter items.
